The Art Room Spotlight: Meet Leslie Kregel

What do you do at The Art Room? I am the volunteer coordinator and I also teach some of the Zoom classes that we have had over the last few months.

What drew you to volunteering at The Art Room? Talking to Marlys Lamar about her vision for the Art Room, I felt compelled to be a part in whatever way I could.

How long have you been volunteering at The Art Room? I have been there from the start!

What is your favorite thing about The Art Room? The moments of magic that happen, the healing that happens in small quiet ways, the opening up of hearts, and of course - the art making!

What is your favorite project you’ve done at The Art Room? It is hard to pick one. I have enjoyed learning from the teachers that have taught our classes, and I am inspired by the collective nature of our community projects.

What is your favorite art medium? Mine is mixed media and textiles.

What is your spirit animal? The crow.

What are five songs you identify with? Burning Down the House, Amazing Grace, Free Falling, The Bug, and Big Yellow Taxi

What are some goals you want to achieve at The Art Room? Expand the Open Studio times, once we re-open, continue to teach the Zoom classes and reach out to participants that might not be able to attend Open Studio times, continue to develop out crew of willing and very able volunteers.

What does The Art Room mean to you? Overall, The Art Room is a safe place for personal growth, healing, and expression. It is a uniquely peaceful place in the midst of a chaotic and stressful time.
