Get Started
Welcome to The Art Room, where we offer a safe, free art studio space for adults, teens, and Veterans to tap into the healing potential of art-making.
Note: While we believe that art and creativity can be therapeutic, we provide a supportive space and art materials for that process without offering direct therapy or art therapy services.
How to Apply for Membership
If you’d like to sign up to become a Member of The Art Room, please complete the form at the bottom of this page. If you’re unable to complete the form online, you can contact us at info@theartroomdenton.org, or call us at (940) 220-9844 and we’ll be happy to help you complete the form over the phone.
What Happens After the Form is Submitted?
When we receive your application, we will reach out to you by email within 2 business days to schedule an orientation.
Orientation
Once your completed form is received and reviewed, and before you start to attend The Art Room programs, we want to meet with potential Members to make sure our mutual needs and expectations are met.
There are a couple of reasons for this initial meeting:
One is that at The Art Room we hope to provide an emotionally safe space for our Members, supported by the presence of mental health and artist volunteers. With that in mind, during the meeting we’re able to get to know you, and you can learn about what we have to offer.
During this initial meeting, we’ll show you the space, familiarize you with the art supplies and equipment, and let you know about all the programs.
We hope to get you excited about the creative process, give you a view of how to get started at The Art Room, and answer any questions you might have.
From time to time, we realize that our organization may not be able to meet the needs of an applicant, often because our support staff and volunteers are not equipped to provide one-on-one supervision or aid with behavioral management. In such cases, we will do our best to make referrals to other community resources better suited for the applicant’s needs.
Beginning at The Art Room
After we meet with you and you’ve become a Member of The Art Room, you’re welcome to attend any open studio time that’s posted on our calendar, and to sign up for any classes we offer.
Using the space, art supplies, and coming to the classes is free to you. It’s up to you how long and how often you come to The Art Room to create.
We recommend you come as early as you can for open studio sessions to get the most out of your time here.
We look forward to meeting you for some fun, creative time in The Art Room!
