The Art Room’s success depends on its mental health, artist, and general volunteers who ensure that each participant is supported in their creative experience. We also hope that our volunteers have a positive creative experience of their own working in The Art Room. We truly believe you’ll receive as much as you give.
If you’re interested in volunteering, please fill out the form at the bottom of this page to start the process of becoming a volunteer. (Please note that volunteers need to be over 18 years old to apply.) We offer three types of volunteer opportunities:
Mental health volunteers. You are welcome to apply as a mental health volunteer if you have any background in the mental health field–specifically if you have worked in a mental health setting–or if you’re licensed as a mental health professional, or if you’re a student studying in a mental health concentration. You do not need to have any art experience or background to apply.
Artist volunteers. You are welcome to apply as an artist volunteer if you have any background in art specifically as an artist, an art educator, a student studying art or art education, or as a therapist who has used art as a therapeutic tool. You do not need to have experience working with individuals who have a mental health challenge to apply.
General volunteers. Even if you are not an artist or mental health professional, we would love to have you as a volunteer in The Art Room. There are many ways to contribute your time and energy, whether serving on a committee or working on a special project, your talents and contributions are welcomed.

Before volunteering, here’s an idea of what you can expect from us and what we expect from you:
You’ll have lots of fun!
You’ll experience the same benefits as Members when engaging in the creative process (including observing others’ creative processes).
After you fill out the form, we'll reach out to you to schedule a volunteer orientation, which is required before you can sign up to volunteer.
We expect that anyone who volunteers to volunteer at least once a month for at least three months.
We will communicate with you about all our activities and opportunities, and we want you to communicate with us regularly about your plans and availability as well.
