Every child is an artist. The problem is to remain an artist once they grow up. —Pablo Picasso

 Come join us!

The Art Room is now open for teens, with new fall programing!

Studio 416 is a program offered by The Art Room combining art and mindfulness practice especially created for adolescents, 9th through 12th grade.

Here’s what you can expect from our program:

We’ll offer open studio time at The Art Room from 5:30-7:30 where teens can work on whatever art project they want. In addition to creating in open studio, this fall, we will be offering teens the opportunity to work with UNT’s Youth Media lab, where they will be guided by UNT professors and graduate students to create various media arts, such as film or podcasts, Additional details about Studio 416:

  • Studio 416 Open Studio sessions will be held at The Art Room located at 721 S. Locust St., Denton, TX 76201.

  • During the fall and spring, Open Studio sessions meet weekly on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30 pm on an ongoing basis. Check our calendar for holiday scheduling with different hours and closings.

  • We ask and recommended that a commitment is made to come to open studio at least one or two times, and to arrive at Studio 416 five minutes before 5:30 to find a place and get settled.

  • For each Studio 416 open studio session we allow a maximum size of 12 members, and it is on a first come, first serve basis.

  • Studio 416 open studio sessions are guided by an experienced artist and a mental health professional. Other volunteers with experience in art and mental health may be present for mentorship and help.

  • Participants don’t have to have a formal mental health diagnosis, or referral, but will need to identify their mental health concern.

  • Participants don’t have to have any art experience, just an interest!

  • This program, including in-session art supplies, is free!!!

  • For each new member, we will offer a tote bag and a few basic art supplies to take home. We will hand out additional art supplies as members attend more sessions, so frequent flyers get the most benefit!
