Zoom-Open Studio Hybrid Class | Figurative Sculpture

  • The Art Room 416 S Elm St #101 Denton, TX, 76201 USA (map)

In part 2 we will be positioning our figure, adding dimension and attaching it to the base. There will be several materials in your kit for this week: Two coils of wire- differing thicknesses, piece of metal window screen, some plaster embedded gauze, and some newsprint.

There is also some plastic coated wire by the supply check out that you can take if you want. Blocks of wood- pre-drilled with a small hole for attaching your sculpture are also on the table. Please choose the one that you think best suits your work as a base. If you want to create your own base from your own piece of wood- the hole is drilled by a 1/16 bit - and drilled to a depth of 1 1/2 to 3 inches.

The kits are ready to be picked up Tuesday - Friday 9-5 at the Art Room. Please sign on the form when you pick up your kit. I think most people that were in person last week will also be in person this week. In-person attendees can get their kit on Saturday. If you were in person last week and can't be in person on 5/29, let me know and we will be sure you get the Zoom link. If you want to be on the in-person waitlist let me know. There are only 6 in-person spaces available.

Things you will want to have in addition to your armature from last week and your supply kits:

  • A pair of utility scissors- or old scissors you don't mind dulling a bit by cutting mesh window screen.

  • Paper for sketching

  • Small cup of water

If you have them - smaller needle-nose pliers for detail work

a round toothpick, dowels, round wood pencil for wrapping wire around to make spirals

If you are wanting to use other materials like nails, pins, charms, stones, etc. gather those to have on hand. And if you want to use more wire than is in the kit, you can find quite a few kinds at local hardware stores.

Don't forget: We will start at 10:00 am and wrap up at noon for the rest of this class series.
