Zoom-Open Studio Hybrid Class | Figurative Sculpture

  • The Art Room 416 S Elm St #101 Denton, TX, 76201 USA (map)

The class will launch a 4 week series of classes that will result in a small figurative sculpture. We will begin by creating a wire armature that has average human proportions and will build off of that for the next few weeks by adding volume and finishing with a layer of plaster gauze that will add texture to the surface. This will be our first 3-D project since we shifted to all Zoom classes.

Kits for the first session can be picked up at the Art Room if you are Zooming into the meeting. They will be available Wednesday - Friday for pick up during regular working hours and will include wire, armature drawing, needle nose pliers, and masking tape.

If you would like to join the class in person we will take the first 6 people to sign up for this option, you will need to agree to meet the Art Room protocols if you choose this option- those are listed below,

The session will be from 11:00 - 1:00. Leslie will be teaching the class and launching this project. Please let us know if you will be joining us and if you want to attend in person or via Zoom.

We look forward to this attempt to combine the limited Open Studio and the Zoom formats, and we ask for your patience as we do our best to keep everyone safe and make our transition back to the Open Studio a success.

The Art Room protocol for in-person sessions:

  • For everyone entering The Art Room we expect you to wear a mask, and keep it on until you are settled in your spot, or whenever you get up for any reason.

  • If you have been vaccinated, we will leave it to your discretion to wear your mask throughout the time you are there seated and working, but we prefer if you wear your mask.

  • If you have not been vaccinated, we expect you to wear your mask the entire time you are in The Art Room and ask that you seat yourself toward the back of the room.

  • We will have paper masks available in case you forget your mask.

  • We recommend that you wash your hands before coming into The Art Room and upon leaving The Art Room.

  • We will provide hand sanitizers at every table.

  • We have the sink at the back of the room to wash your hands.

  • We have a Hepa13 air filter in the room that will be turned on to filter the air.

  • We will have one person per table, with the seating staggered and the tables 6 ft. apart.

  • We expect you to use your own judgement about coming and if not feeling well, join us on Zoom.

  • Despite all these rules and masks, we hope you have fun and enjoy being in The Art Room!
