In this session, we are thinking about how, just as a box has an outside and a less obvious (or hidden) inside, in the same way, we each have a sort of duality-- there is more to us than what is obvious on the surface. In this session we will be creating affirmation boxes from cigar boxes. For this session it’s recommended that you gather items that are meaningful to you, and represent who you are. We will be working with mixed media, so anything that you’d be willing to put on your box is welcomed--see what draws your interest (e.g., pictures for a collage, magazine cut outs, found objects/treasures). During the session we will explore ways of using your collection of ideas and images.

Pictures to use for a collage
Found objects/ Treasures
Decorative paper
Acrylic paints for adding designs
Cigar box or other sturdy box
We do have cigar boxes, glue sticks, modge podge, magazines, and decorative paper in The Art Room for pick up today until 6:00, and Wednesday-Thursday, 9:00-5:00. If you need any other supplies, please let us know and we'll get back to you on what we can offer.
If you’ve started a box in the past, you’re more than welcome to work on it in this session. We recommend you paint your box prior to Thursday if you’d like to do so, that way you can have a chance to decorate it on Thursday. While painting, it may be useful to put wax paper between the box opening, to prevent the box from drying together.
