Therapeutic Thursdays I Cartography

  • The Art Room 416 S Elm St #101 Denton, TX, 76201 USA (map)

"Cartography is the study and practice of making and using maps. Combining science, aesthetics, and technique, cartography builds on the premise that reality can be modeled in ways that communicate spatial information effectively.”

From the book Journal Fodder 365: Daily doses of inspiration for the art addict, we learned that "a map is simply a system of structure for organizing information. ...Maps are a concrete example of our connection to places and to people, and the graphics can supply us with ideas for our art-making." We are inspired to share with you some fun techniques for creating a map-- of places real or imagined; of people, places, and things; or maybe of thoughts and ideas.

To be ready for this session, you will want to have:

  • pencil and paper-- such as drawing paper/sketch pad, watercolor paper, or your altered book

OPTIONAL items include:

  • watercolor paints with water, brush, and a straw if you have one

  • pens or markers, or colored pencils

  • map/s-- tourist map, trail guide, road map, globe, etc.
