Collage Class at The Art Room

  • The Art Room 416 S. Elm St., Ste. 101 Denton, TX 76201 (map)

The Art Room will be offering a class on the art of collage, taught by Sue Little, collage artist, with a live demonstration, supplies, and mental health and artist volunteers to guide you through the process.

Collage, from the French verb coller, meaning 'to glue,' is the artistic process of gluing and assembling various materials to a flat surface.  In the 19th century, papiers collés were created from papers cut out and put together to form decorative compositions. In about 1912–13 Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque extended this technique, combining fragments of paper, wood, linoleum, and newspapers with oil paint on canvas to form subtle and interesting abstract or semiabstract compositions.  The collage method is a tool for transformative practice based on the brain’s inherent recreative cycle. Intuitive collage bypasses our censoring and defensive mind, and surprises us with new information about our inner life. Choosing imagery spontaneously, and then seeing what feelings and ideas arise, can incite new understanding about what you unconsciously believe about yourself and how you feel about your life. Please join us for some fun, self-education, and inspiration!
