What is the art room?
The Art Room provides a safe, supportive studio environment for adults with mental health issues to explore artistic expression and the development of artistic skills. Our visitors will be supported in the discovery that the creative process has therapeutic value in reducing stress, in promoting self-discovery, and in providing a positive means for emotional expression. We hope to demonstrate that engaging in art is therapeutic.
The Art Room is located in Denton, Texas.
We’re excited to announce our 2025 Member Exhibition scheduled for March 7-15 at UNT CoLab, with opening reception on Friday, March 7, from 5:00-8:00 p.m.! The Art Room is currently accepting Submissions from Members.
Important Dates:
February 15: Final drop-off date for submissions that require framing.
March 1: Final drop-off date for submissions that are ready for display.
March 7: Opening reception!
About the Exhibition
In the coming weeks, we will share exciting details on the opening reception celebrations, but for now our focus is to encourage all of our Members to consider submitting their artwork for display at the exhibition. The opportunity to share our art with others can be a means of showing pride in our accomplishments, a chance to connect with our wider community, and even inspire someone else along the way! Much like last year, we will also have procedures in place that will allow you to sell your artwork.
We’re accepting artwork in any medium, size, or level of expertise. This is a non-juried art show, without evaluation or critique, designed to celebrate our Members’ creativity and self-expression. In respect to inclusion and space limitations, we are asking Members to only focus on and submit one piece.
Criteria for Submission
No more than 1 entry per member.
Submissions must either have been done since joining The Art Room, or be related to your experience here at The Art Room in some way. Our preference is for the art to have been completed in the past year.
Pieces can be submitted framed or you can ask us to help frame them for you.
Members may drop off artwork during Monday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday sessions at The Art Room.
All submissions must be accompanied by a submission form either filled out in person at the time of drop off or through this link.
It’s wonderful once again to be partnering with the UNT CoLab on the Square as our gracious exhibition host. Because this exhibition will run for a full week and be open to public viewing, you are given the choice to use your full name, initials, or first name only on your artwork.
We are looking forward to receiving your inquiries and submissions!
One Year Later At Our New Art Studio Home
Can you believe it’s been an entire year since we moved to our new art studio home? Time sure flies when you are having fun! This space has given us so much more opportunity to grow. We have been able to have more members participate in our classes daily. Throughout the year, our studio has been much more accessible to the public through various events including our very own art market and member exhibit in the spring! More importantly, we have been able to amplify our voice within the community as a place for creativity and healing.
It honestly has been a wonderful first year and we are looking forward to many more at 721 Locust Street thanks to our beloved Denton community!

Support The Art Room
We truly believe that art and creative expression can bring healing and recovery to people’s lives. It’s an honor to be able to operate a space in which both can be nurtured, but we can’t do it alone. Thanks to our sponsors, community partners, donors, and volunteers for helping us keep the dream alive.
The Art Room is a 501c3 nonprofit corporation under the name The ArtFullness Project, so you can make a tax deductible donation, or you can donate through organizations like Amazon Smile (see link below) and North Texas Giving Day.
