What is the art room?

The Art Room provides a safe, supportive studio environment for adults with mental health issues to explore artistic expression and the development of artistic skills. Our visitors will be supported in the discovery that the creative process has therapeutic value in reducing stress, in promoting self-discovery, and in providing a positive means for emotional expression. We hope to demonstrate that engaging in art is therapeutic.

The Art Room is located in Denton, Texas.

Donate to The Art Room for
2024 North Texas Giving Day

Help us reach our 2024 goal of $30,000!

As many of you know, we moved in August 2022, and our new home has provided more room for creativity and our growing membership. Because of our expansion, our financial needs have increased and our fundraising goals this year are higher. We are particularly targeting recurring donations this North Texas Giving Day 2024 for greater financial stability.

In addition to our financial goals, we have the goal of growing our programs to include evening open studio hours once a week, including a new program for Veterans that started early this year, called Arts for Veterans, meeting three times a month.

The Art Room became more integrated in the Denton community in 2024 by supporting other organizations with public art projects, as well as our annual Community Art Project, where we give back to the Denton community by creating large-scale artworks that we donate to local nonprofits: 1000 Cranes for Peace, 2020; Roots and Branches, 2021; A New Day, 2022; Welcome Home, 2023; and currently we are working on our most ambitious project yet, Wonderful World, where we are decorating the new Health Services of North Texas Denton Pediatric Center, creating artworks for all 10 treatment rooms, hallways, and reception room, on the theme of animals and their biomes.

Continued needs included funding for the monthly costs of staff, rent, bills, and nonprofit corporate expenses, as well as to purchase a variety of art supplies, and promotional materials. We are also in need of storage shelving for supplies, and the means to create digital art, such as iPads.

Learn more here, and please consider donating today. Your donation makes a big impact for the continued success of The Art Room.

the art room’s 2024 community art project, “Wonderful World”

In celebration of North Texas Giving Day, we’re excited to announce what we have planned for our 2024 Community Art Project. For several years now we’ve been committed to giving back to other Denton area nonprofits, highlighting what it means to be a community. This year we’re thrilled to be working with Health Services of North Texas to beautify their new Pediatrics Health Center, located at 4308 Mesa Drive, Denton, TX.

This project will consist of the design and painting of 10 treatment rooms, the reception area, and various other spaces in the facility; currently the spaces are minimally decorated. Health Services of North Texas expressed their desire to improve their aesthetic to be more representative of the vibrant, fun-spirited, and safe space that their mission aims to deliver. The Art Room is delighted to meet this need in our community using our resources, which includes you.

What we’re doing

The overall theme of our design encompasses different ecosystems and the animals that live in them. Each treatment room will feature a different animal in its native habitat, alongside an affirmation to encourage mental health. Other areas of the clinic will draw inspiration from this theme. we need your help

One of the many things that’s  so great about our Community Art Project is that we cannot do it alone. We’re looking for community members to join us in our mission to bring this children's clinic to life.

We are in need of roughly 40 volunteers to offer their time and talent to the fulfillment of this project. Volunteers will be working on the painting of the design elements that will be featured in the treatment rooms. We have four painting sessions scheduled to complete these elements.

dates And sign up forms for painting sessions:

Saturday, August 10, from 3 to 8 p.m.

Sunday, August 11, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday, August 17, from 3 to 8 p.m.

Sunday, August 18, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Each session will be held at The Art Room and will begin with a demonstration of the type of painting we’ll be doing. We’re asking that you commit to the entirety of the session to ensure the completion of the work. Each session will consist of 10 to 12 volunteers, and you’ll be working in small groups with guidance from project managers. Snacks and beverages will be provided in a fun, safe, and relaxed environment.

As we initiate this project and it evolves, there may be other opportunities for collaboration and community involvement. We’ll be providing regular updates on our exciting progress and opportunities through our social media and website.

other ways to support the art room

The Art Room’s commitment to Health Services of North Texas is to provide artwork that is safe, durable and hygienic for their young patients, which means we’re using high quality materials and extra time to realize these details. To help us accomplish this goal, we’d love to have you on board through your volunteerism and financial support. Throughout this North Texas Giving Day season we would appreciate a financial donation, in any amount that is meaningful to you, which would help us meet our goals, including our larger goal—to build community through creativity.

One Year Later At Our New Art Studio Home

Can you believe it’s been an entire year since we moved to our new art studio home? Time sure flies when you are having fun! This space has given us so much more opportunity to grow. We have been able to have more members participate in our classes daily. Throughout the year, our studio has been much more accessible to the public through various events including our very own art market and member exhibit in the spring! More importantly, we have been able to amplify our voice within the community as a place for creativity and healing.

It honestly has been a wonderful first year and we are looking forward to many more at 721 Locust Street thanks to our beloved Denton community!

Thanks to our sponsors, community partners, donors, and volunteers for helping us keep the dream alive.

The Art Room is a 501c3 nonprofit corporation under the name The ArtFullness Project, so you can make a tax deductible donation, or you can donate through organizations like Amazon Smile (see link below) and North Texas Giving Day.
